Summary: In a small village in Ireland in 1833, a barn serves as an evening school. There, in a cheerful atmosphere, pupils learn not only to read and count, but also Latin, Ancient Greek… and above all Gaelic, the Irish language. This fragile balance is threatened when the British authorities arrive with maps and compasses to translate and rename Irish towns and villages in English. The lives of the villagers are changed by the arrival of these British soldiers and their project, calling into question some of their certainties, dreams and future.
